Deidre was always destined to be a scientist. From the age of nine she created a 'Nature Room' in an attic at home, where she displayed many things she had collected from the local environment; there was even a visitors' book to sign! She read Natural Sciences at Cambridge, eventually became a post-doctoral research scientist. When the National Curriculum came into being she realised (as the mother of primary-aged children) there were not many Primary School teachers with science training, so she became a PGCE student at Reading where she was at that time a research fellow.

Deidre taught mostly UKS2 children and became a deputy head before leaving the classroom to become an ICT Inspector in Hampshire when most primary schools were just beginning to grapple with computers. Moving to Oxford enabled Deidre to take on the challenge of running Hamilton Trust (after Jack had left). She still writes materials for Hamilton but is delighted to be part of the Relaxed team too!
