Finished!
The polytunnel was now in place on the smallholding and this photo shows everything in all its glory on a lovely April evening just a few weeks after we had finished it. It was nice to sit back for a few minutes to enjoy the views from our land, and to realise that whilst we had completed the main build of the polytunnel there was still a lot of work to do: planting and harvesting, adding new compost and removing weeds, repairing tears, keeping the cabbage white butterfly out...Over four years later the food it has produced has been fabulous: we have had our fair share of disasters (losing ALL our potatoes to blight was not good) and 2014 has definitely been the year of the caterpillar!!! But nothing beats freshly made bread with our own goat's cheese, cucumber and salad leaves or the first asparagus spears of the year or picking peas for supper and eating most of them before you even get back up to the kitchen!!!! |
